Windows xp please help?

my start menu has dissapeared ive tried everything from restarting to running the new task explorer.exe...everytime i try to reinstall or uninstall something it says windows installer wasnt installed correctly i need help and my mozilla firefox icon is gone aand i have no way to access it(im on internet explorer now) i need help please!!
