Breeding Metagross/Ditto Problems?

To my knowledge, you can only breed genderless Pokemon such as Metagross, with Ditto. But when I put my Ditto and Metagross in the Daycare in Solaceon town, the old man said that they didn't like eachother, which means no eggs. What is the problem?
