Question about the song changes by David Bowie?

On it's simplest level, it's a song about self-awareness, especially the changes we all go through as human beings as we age. The line "time may change me But I can’t trace time" is about the ou changes not being linear, and that our changes can't always be traced back such that we can "start over" from where we are, since we are different people now.
